TYPE OF EVENT : Guildhall School of Music, Jazz, Dinner Jazz

The UK is home to some of the world's finest music academies, several of them are in London and one in particular, Guildhall School of Music & Drama, is virtually on Toulouse Lautrec's doorstep. We've decided to offer GSMD postgraduates a residency they can call their own, to give our audience and us an opportunity to get to know these exceptional up and coming young players. We'll be seeing a lot of them in the future, but why wait?
Come down any Monday night and enjoy a lot of them right now.

This week Guildhall in Focus presents

Freddie Benedict (Vocals) & David Swan (Piano)

Freddie’s voice has brought him many opportunities. He’s recorded for Spectre, Maradona and Johnny English 3, acted in The Alltogether with Martin Freeman, played Danny in Grease and Sky in Guys and Dolls. He’s a leading animation voice in Azur and Asmar and Planet 51.

As a choral scholar at Kings College London, Trinity Head Chorister and with Trinity Boys' Choir, he has sung at the Royal Albert Hall, the Royal Opera House and Glyndebourne, as well as churches and cathedrals all over the UK, Italy, Germany, Nigeria and Poland. As a soloist, he sang 1st Boy in The Magic Flute three times, Boy in Elijah at the Royal Festival Hall and Cobweb in A Midsummer Night’s Dream in Baugé, as well as Lloyd Webber’s Requiem in Krakow. Gigs with Trinity Big Band, Kings Big Band and his own jazz quintet, London Red, have included the Spice of Life, the Hideaway, Jazz After Dark and Ronnie Scott’s. He regularly sells out Crazy Coqs, Piccadilly. He studied classical singing at the Katarina Gurska Conservatoire in Madrid and his current teacher is Bertie Rice. He is now studying for a master’s degree in jazz singing at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

In the past, he has added his baritone and beatboxing talents to acapella group, All the King’s Men, who were nominated for 4 CARAs and has now joined NoVI, whose success as European ICCA champions took them to Carnegie Hall in 2017. As a singer with NYJO, he has been delighted to perform for HRH Prince Edward on two occasions.

Please note:
Please support our Guildhall postgraduates and show your appreciation during their performances. The performing students are correct at the time of booking. Due to the importance of their diplomas there may be some last-minute changes to the advertised performance.

About Dr Sketchy London

Dr Sketchy was founded in 2005 by artist, author and former artists model Molly Crabapple. It's a little Brooklyn event that has become a movement. Now taking place in 150 cities (and counting) around the world. See more of our Dr Sketchy creator Molly Crabapple

Opening it's doors in 2007 Dr. Sketchy London is organised by Clare Marie and hosted by Dr. Sketchy's evil headmaster Dusty Limits

Life drawing is more than just nude models and serious sketching. So we've scoured this great city to find beautiful burlesque performers, bizarre circus acts, and rippling hunks of man-flesh. Then we let them loose on stage to release the artist in you!

In between each round of sketching our larger-than-life models you get a chance to grab a drink get comfortable and take in some of the finest burlesque, comedy, music, poetry and quirky cabaret performances the big smoke has to offer.

Dr Sketchy isn't about being an amazing artist, as long as you can put pencil to paper and move it around that's good enough for us and you never know you might just unleash that artist inside.

It's what art classes would be if the class was let loose in the Moulin Rouge.

"It’s a wonderful thing to do - share a bottle of wine with friends and sketch"
Evening Standard

“As well as being a fantastic giggle, the process is genuinely liberating”
