The UK is home to some of the world's finest music academies, several of them are in London and one in particular, Guildhall School of Music & Drama, is virtually on Toulouse Lautrec's doorstep. We've decided to offer GSMD students a residency they can call their own, to give our audience and us an opportunity to get to know these exceptional up and coming young players. We'll be seeing a lot of them in the future, but why wait?
Come down any Monday night and enjoy a lot of them right now.

This week Guildhall in Focus presents

Ray Estaire (Vocals) & Niel Birse (Piano)

A blossoming friendship that changed into a Jazz duo so rare, they knew they had to capture each note together. Estaire and Birse both studied Jazz at the prestigious Guildhall School Of Music and Drama, paving the way for their current EP project ‘Songs We Love’. Ray is a member of the Guildhall Jazz Singers to which Birse was the musical director, and both have performed with likes of Liane Carrol, Mike Walker, Will Young, Gabrielle, Tim Garland, Eric Roberson, and Ian Dixon to name a few. Like two old souls from yester year, this bold duo effortlessly weave between their favorite Jazz standards, honoring each audience with laughter and engagement, proving that true showmanship still lives.

With a deep, rich tone reminiscent of Sarah Vaughan, Estaire croons a story so honest it’ll make your heart stop, whilst Birse plays each note with a sensibility that can only be compared to Bill Evans. Both artists in their own right, past projects have allowed Neil to tour as a member of the National Youth Jazz Orchestra Of Scotland, and for Estaire to play at the Barbican, sell out the Jazz Café, Union Chapel, and have her previous EP Talk About It’ sponsored by the music organisation, Serious. Together they are quickly gaining momentum on the London Jazz scene and rightfully so, as they are a treasure not to be missed.
