The UK is home to some of the world's finest music academies, several of them are in London and one in particular, Guildhall School of Music & Drama, is virtually on Toulouse Lautrec's doorstep. We've decided to offer GSMD students a residency they can call their own, to give our audience and us an opportunity to get to know these exceptional up and coming young players. We'll be seeing a lot of them in the future, but why wait?
Come down any Monday night and enjoy a lot of them right now.

This week Guildhall in Focus presents

Jake Burgess (Saxophone) & Ed Rice (Piano)

Jake is a Norwich-born, London-based musician, teacher and a recent graduate of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Having studied classical saxophone with Christian Forshaw, jazz with Iain Ballamy, Jean Toussaint and Malcolm Edmonstone and music production with Jim Knight, Jake now works with an eclectic mix of bands in a wide variety of styles and genres, particularly the music of West Africa and Brazil with Caravela, Rhythms of the City and Samba A Tres. Alongside performing in a number of other bands, Jake has recently formed his own project which focusses on rearranging the music of traditional Scandinavian folks songs. Jake has also performed in many of the UK's top music venues and festivals including Shepherd's Bush Empire, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Royal Festival Hall, Barbican Concert Hall, Jimmy's Farm Festival, Jamie Oliver's Big Feastival and three performances at the Royal Albert Hall with the most recent being a live broadcast with Caravela on BBC Radio 3 for BBC Proms Extra.

Ed Rice is a pianist, and arranger based in the London area. After completing a bachelor’s degree in Music at Leeds University, in 2015 he moved to London and began studying on the postgraduate Artist Masters course at Guildhall School of Music and Drama, receiving tuition from, among others, Gareth Willliams, Jason Rebello, Scott Stroman and Trevor Tomkins. Other highlights have included playing with Guildhall Jazz Band featuring Mike Walker and Iain Dixon in the 2016 London Jazz Festival and performing with renowned vocalist Liane Carroll in the Guildhall Jazz Festival in May 2017. Ed’s other projects include work with Chris Read, who can be found playing regularly at jazz venues in the London area, as well as deputising with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra.
