TYPE OF EVENT : Young Jazz Musicians, Jazz, Folk & Soul

The UK is home to some of the world's finest music academies, several of them are in London and one in particular, Guildhall School of Music & Drama, is virtually on Toulouse Lautrec's doorstep. We've decided to offer GSMD students a residency they can call their own, to give our audience and us an opportunity to get to know these exceptional up and coming young players. We'll be seeing a lot of them in the future, but why wait?
Come down any Monday night and enjoy a lot of them right now.

This week Guildhall in Focus presents
Lydia Bell (Vocals) & Ed Rice (Piano)

"Vibrant vocal-piano jazz duo."

Lydia Bell and Ed Rice, both postgraduate jazz students at Guildhall School of Music and Drama, approach their own interpretations of jazz standards in a lyrical and expressive way, and will be exploring both sensitive and swinging sides to jazz, as well as other influences drawn from artists such as Carole King and Joni Mitchell.

"Lydia Bell...whose sultry vocal acrobatics and innate inner rhythm all add up to a sparkling, versatile performance."
Filabusta Music 2016

Lydia Bell is currently honing her jazz vocal talents at Guildhall School of Music and Drama as a postgraduate student. She demonstrates a mature, warm tone, reminiscent of the great jazz singers from the 1940s, from where she draws huge influence. She combines a classic jazz sound with an exceptional ear, and her strengths lie in various genres from close harmony singing to Big Band singing and arranging, and is heavily involved in the Vintage scene in both Essex and London. She has a true swinging style and evokes a unique tone with her low alto voice in her interpretation of jazz standards and scat singing.

Ed rice Is graduating from part two of the artist masters at the prestigious guildhall school of music and drama. His Melodic style is reminiscent of early nat king cole and lester young. Ed has worked closely with singers and has a natural instinctive sensitivity to the american songbook that perfectly complements Lydia's graceful style.
