"Highly original group playing their own music and arrangements."

Tonight, Alex presents his new Quartet formed in December 2015 and they will be performing original music and arrangements from their forthcoming album, ''Pattern, Habits and Loops.'' Drawing on a whole range of influences, the band demonstrates outstanding musicianship and very strong collective writing skills (3 of the quartet are established composers.) This will be an exciting and hugely enjoyable gig.

Superb Quartet featuring Alex Curtis (Piano,) Jon Shenoy (Saxophones/Bass Clarinet,) Dave O'Brien (Bass,) and the UK's busiest drummer Sophie Alloway. Expect highly original arrangements/compositions, heavy grooves and some outstanding group interaction.

Alex Curtis has a multifaceted career as a pianist, composer, arranger and educator. He has worked in many different genres which stems from his interest in all styles of music which began at an early age. A skilled composer and arranger, Alex has worked with several top vocalists including Beth Hirsch (Air), Katina Kangaris and Ana Silvera. In 2011, Alex collaborated with Ana for a ground breaking sellout series of concerts at the Roundhouse in London. For this, he arranged Ana's songs for choir, small band and string quartet to much critical acclaim.

“Jo Harrop has a beautiful & excellent tone with great stage presence”
Marlbank.net

“Jo Harrop is a jazz singer who has a refined mellow sound, evoking the greats such as Anita O'Day & Billie Holliday and Nina Simone, she delivers a beautifully warm and swinging sound. "No worries here, this girl was born to sing jazz! Jo has all the emotional warmth and sensibility to melt the chilliest of hearts, and her laid back charm implies the right sort of tact she naturally has for her engaging take on soul jazz. Undeniable star quality”
Blues & Soul Magazine

“A singing sensation.... Her voice is amazing – think Islay whisky, dark porter or tannin-rich red wine –deep, the lissom lady is a class act. Vocalist Jo Harrop held the audience in the palm of her hand from the first note, a sign that we were listening to something special.”
