In October 2016 Olive Branch Arts will be returning to the Saharawi Refugee Camps in SW Algeria to continue training young people in theatre and performance. 'Take Flight' will be a reimagining of the story of Icarus & Daedalus and we will be exploring this epic Greek myth from the Saharawi perspective. Over 3 weeks we will be working with 20 young people offering them a safe place to come together, play & learn new skills.

The aim of our project is to take the young people out of their everyday lives & offer some respite from an extremely difficult & challenging living environment. Our engagement shows them the outside world is interested and aware of their story and gives them a creative outlet to process their political and social experience. The Saharawi strongly believe in the power of art & culture as a means of bringing their plight to an international audience, our projects arm them with the tools and skills they need to do this. A number of former participants have joined the Saharawi National Theatre Team performing across the region at a number of theatre festivals and political events.

Please show solidarity with the Saharawi by supporting our project and giving voice to a forgotten people. Every reward on our crowdfunding campaign gets you a ticket to our cabaret fundraiser on the 18th September at Brasserie Toulouse Lautrec in Kennington from 6pm.

We look forward to seeing you then, but please remember if you can't make the 18th you can still donate.

The Olive Branch Arts team work as volunteers, every penny raised goes directly to the cost of running the project.
