TYPE OF EVENT : Big Band Jazz

Valentine’s Day Special with The Duke Street Big Band

Join us for an afternoon celebrating love and heartbreak, and the great music that it inspires. Let 22 of London's dreamiest musicians take you on a romantic journey, with a cracking programme of jazz, funk and latin tunes about every aspect of love. With music from Ella Fitzgerald to Charles Mingus to Snarky Puppy, it promises to be a lot more fun than an overpriced Valentine's Day set menu in an packed restaurant.

The Duke Street Big Band is one of London's premier big bands. Founded in 2011, the band was set up to bring Jazz and big band music to a wider audience. When they are not playing at private parties you can find them at venues across London from The Crypt in Trafalgar Square, The Water Rats, The Dublin Castle to the Toulouse Lautrec Jazz Club.

Duke Street will be joined by their singer, Talia Cohen. Talia has played at the likes of Ronnie Scott’s, Scala, the Hippodrome Casino and has worked with an array of musicians and producers recently including Turner Prize nominee James Richards.

“Jo Harrop has a beautiful & excellent tone with great stage presence”
Marlbank.net

“Jo Harrop is a jazz singer who has a refined mellow sound, evoking the greats such as Anita O'Day & Billie Holliday and Nina Simone, she delivers a beautifully warm and swinging sound. "No worries here, this girl was born to sing jazz! Jo has all the emotional warmth and sensibility to melt the chilliest of hearts, and her laid back charm implies the right sort of tact she naturally has for her engaging take on soul jazz. Undeniable star quality”
Blues & Soul Magazine

“A singing sensation.... Her voice is amazing – think Islay whisky, dark porter or tannin-rich red wine –deep, the lissom lady is a class act. Vocalist Jo Harrop held the audience in the palm of her hand from the first note, a sign that we were listening to something special.”
